Hurricane Katrina Simulation

Hurricane Katrina was a Category 5 storm that struck the U.S. Gulf Coast in late August 2005. It caused catastrophic flooding in New Orleans after levee failures, devastated coastal Mississippi and Louisiana, and displaced over a million people. With more than 1,800 lives lost and $125 billion in damages, it remains one of the deadliest and costliest hurricanes in U.S. history.

Hurricane?Melissa formed in the Caribbean Sea in late October?2025 from a tropical wave that had traversed from West Africa. Track The Tropics +1 The storm is expected to bring very destructive winds (in excess of 130?mph/210?km?h-1), heavy rainfall—potentially 20-40?inches in some zones—and life-threatening storm surge and flooding, particularly in regions like Jamaica, Haiti, and southeastern Cuba. Reuters +2 AP News +2 Jamaica is under a full hurricane warning; authorities are warning of catastrophic flash floods, landslides, major coastal inundation, and prolonged disruption.

Our Programs

Over the years of response, we began to see a natural alignment between our success and our work. To convey our work efficiently, we transformed into FIVE central programs each of which are outlined in detail below. The programs work together to deliver swift, sustainable assistance and achieve incredible amounts of fast relief after a disaster.

SAFE Camp

Swift Action Force Emergency Camp is a forward operating base embedded into the most impacted regions. SAFE Camp is a safe place for volunteers and nonprofits to gather, provide meals, supply distribution and provide human services.

Distribution Center

A distribution center is a community run operation that provides disaster victims with much needed supplies.

Cooling Center

Need a break from the heat? Canal Street Church is open as a cooling center. Come inside for AC, cold water, and a safe place to rest.

Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG)

A community-based coalition formed to coordinate disaster recovery efforts and support survivors in rebuilding their lives. Comprising nonprofits, faith-based organizations, government agencies, and local leaders, LTRGs focus on addressing unmet needs that extend beyond the immediate response phase.

Community Caretaking

An outreach team of trained citizens embedded and living for extended periods of time in the most impacted communities to deliver a countless range of creative vital services.

Data-Driven Remote Team

Using a data-driven approach all ground force operations are managed and dispatched by our Data-Driven Remote Team who has oversight to everything that’s happening on the ground.
